NuFarm – York Trip !

CROP MANAGEMENT TRIP TO YORK

In December 2015 a group of farmers and agronomists got on the train at Kings Cross London and were whisked up to Leeds for a whistle stop tour of Nufarm’s headquarters of manufacturing agrochemicals and a visit to Sumo the machinery manufacturer.

We arrived in the early afternoon and were met By Grant James and Will Ridgwell of Nufarm. We were taken by Coach to the Nufarm plant and were greeted by Gary Irving and given a detailed explanation of Nufarm’s global activities and the process of making agrochemicals. We were then shown around the agrochemical manufacturing facility and able to see from a tank of chlorine at the beginning to recognisable products being packed ready to be shipped all over Europe.

We then travelled to York, checked into our hotel and given a guided ghost tour around York by a fascinating fellow who was able to help us appreciate some of York’s history.

We dined at the fabulous Blue Bicycle restaurant. We learnt from our guide the restaurant is in a very historic building and had a certain other purpose in the recent past. When the Blue Bicycle was parked outside it meant the ladies in the premises were open for business!

The Next day we travelled to Sumo and were given a description of the company’s history and product range, followed by a guided tour around their manufacturing facility which was fascinating with sheets and tubes of steel going in one end and direct drills, cultivator’s weights and all sorts of equipment going out the other. Discussions took place on the drills on offer as some of the party have been using then successfully for a few years.
